Remove coloured stains on cloth nappies

If you have used an enzyme-based product and the stains have not shifted, hang the freshly washed nappies outside in strong sunlight, or overnight on a frosty night in the winter.

Keep spiders away

Spiders behind the wing mirrors of your car?  Wipe the edges of the mirrors with lemon peel to deter the spiders.

Door mats

Its worth having good mats at your outside doors so the dirt on shoes is not carried through the house.  Shake the mats regularly (make this part of your cleaning routine) and save on cleaning time.

Large corks and small bottles

If you lose a cork for a bottle or jar, make a large cork fit a small bottle by cutting a wedge shaped piece out of the inner end of the cork.  The gap closes when the cork is put into the bottle.  Don’t slice off pieces on the outside of the cork.

Store food in jars

Keep food in your pantry in airtight jars  or plastic containers instead of open packets and the food will stay fresh longer.

You can recycle empty jars and plastic containers that have had other food in them.

Wash the containers and lids and dry thoroughly before re-use.
