Thread your computer cables through an empty toilet paper roll or half an empty paper towel roll to keep your desk tidy.  You can paint thecardboard tubes or cover them with used wrapping paper to make the deak look more attractive.

Shine aluminium kitchen utensils by boiling them in a solution of 2 tablespoons white vinegar in 1 litre water.

To remove skins from tomatoes and some fruits

To remove skins from tomatoes, tamarillos, peaches and other similar fruit, put the fruit into a bowl and cover with boiling water for 3-4 minutes.  Tip the water out then pierce the skin with the point of a sharp knife. The skin will slip off easily. If the fruit is not very ripe, you may need to repeat the process.

Cool hardboiled eggs quickly

When you hard boil eggs you sometimes get a rather unattractive greyish layer around the edge of the yolk.  To prevent this layer forming, plunge the cooked eggs into a bowl of cold water so they cool down quickly. Ice cubes added to the water helps the process along nice and quickly.

Remove smoking odours

If someone smokes in your house, you can remove the smoky odours by putting a shallow bowl of baking soda dissolved in warm water in each of the affected areas for several hours.  The baking soda will absorb the odours.  This is especially effective after a smoky party.
