Raspberry jam

May 9, 2009 | Filed under Extras

Raspberry jam is the easiest jam to make because raspberries contain enough natural setting agent (pectin) .  This means  the only ingredients you need are raspberries and sugar for a delicious thick red spread for your bread or toast.

Ingredients

1 kg raspberries
1 kg sugar

Method

  1. Put berries into a large saucepan
  2. Simmer gently for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Add the sugar all at once and stir well
  4. Bring to the boil keep it boiling fast for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Test to see if the jam has set by putting a teaspoonful on to a saucer or small plate and leave in a cool place for a few minutes. You can sit it by an open window or pop it in the fridge).
  6. If a skin forms on the top of the jam  and goes crinkly, take the pan of the stove immediately and pour jam into prepared jars, seal jars and leave to cool.
  7. Repeat the test until you get a skin on the jam in the saucer.
