Personal financial management

April 26, 2009 | Filed under Personal financial management

You may have some responsibility for the budget for your team where you work.  At the very least you will know there is a budget and the work you do has a place in that budget.

When it comes to your own money though it is so easy to just spend from payday to payday. When you want to buy something big you use your credit card. Budgeting is something the managers do at work and you don’t want to think about work when you’re having fun.

But in the end there is always a day when you find you have spent all your money and next pay day is four days away. And this happens time and again. It becomes embarrassing or you start using your credit card for day-to-day stuff.  Ouch!

Is there way around this? Well of course there is.

But you need to do some thinking and some planning.

The starting point is the same whether you want to save for something special or whether you just want to manage better from payday to payday.

You need a goal.

Your goal may be as simple as managing your money from payday to payday so you don’t run out between times. Or you may be planning to go on a holiday, buy a car, splash out on some new clothes.

Or all of the above. So how are you going to sort this out?
