July 26, 2013 Filed under Cleaning hints and tips

Remove smoking odours

October 23, 2011 Filed under Tip of the Day

If someone smokes in your house, you can remove the smoky odours by putting a shallow bowl of baking soda dissolved in warm water in each of the affected areas for several hours.  The baking soda will absorb the odours.  This is especially effective after a smoky party. It will also work after a smoky fire or if you’ve burnt something and there is a burn smell afterwards.

Prevent blocked drains

October 22, 2011 Filed under Tip of the Day

you can prevent household drains from blocking if you give them a monthly treatment with baking soda and vinegar.  First slowly pour 1/4 cup dry baking soda down the drain. Then pour in 1/4 cup white vinegar.

The vinegar will fizz as it mixes with the baking soda.  Once the fizzing has stopped, flush the drain with cold water from the tap.
