To clean a blackened saucepan

June 9, 2011 Filed under Tip of the Day

If you’ve boiled a pot dry, scrape off any excess blackened food then half fill the saucepan with cold water and add ¼ cup salt.

Bring to the boil and let simmer for about an hour (The length of time depends on how badly the saucepan is burnt).

Scrape again and repeat if necessary.

Don’t let it boil dry again! You’ll start to wear out the metal!

Clean a stained saucepan

June 7, 2011 Filed under Tip of the Day

If your saucepans are stained inside, cook up some rhubarb in the saucepan.  The acid in the rhubarb will move stains really quickly – and safely.

This also helps to remove the stains from a burnt saucepan when all the blackened sediment has been removed.

To clean the inside of your washing machine

Mix 1/2 cup baking soda with water till you have a smooth paste.  Rub the inside of the washing machine bowl with the paste.  This will remove stains and odours. Put the rinse cycle on to rinse the bowl before washing clothes again.

Getting brown stains off new shower cabinet

May 22, 2010 Filed under Stain removal

Hi

My mum used undiluted oil of cloves to clean her new shower cabinet , PVC shower liner . She saw this tip on a TV show but missed the bit about diluting it,  anyway it has caused some ugly brown stains down the liner and on the shower tray and as yet nothing I have tried will touch it . Any hints or help hear will be greatly received . Thanks P.C. (name supplied)
