Storing small toys

Trim the tops off clear plastic soft drink bottles with a sharp knife and use to store small toys such as matchbox cars, marbles, plastic linking blocks.

Fireproof storage for personal documents

Store valuable papers in a sealed plastic bag in the freezer.  This is the one place in the house that is fireproof. Plus you will always know where to find  the papers and you will save money by not buying a fireproof safe.

Store food in jars

Keep food in your pantry in airtight jars  or plastic containers instead of open packets and the food will stay fresh longer.

You can recycle empty jars and plastic containers that have had other food in them.

Wash the containers and lids and dry thoroughly before re-use.

Storing little things

Use empty glass or plastic jars to store small office supplies (pens etc) that you need around the house.

Ripen kiwifruit quickly

If you have some hard unripe kiwifruit, put them in a bag with an apple and store it in a dark place for a day or two.  The apple helps the kiwifruit to ripen more quickly.
