Update on Graham’s winter special

I’m getting ready to make another batch of Graham’s vegetable soup.  This has been a family favourite for many years.  The photo shows the range of vegetables that go into this tasty and filling winter meal – good for a dinner with crusty bread as well as for lunch.  Heats up well in the microwave at work too.

Ice pack for sprains

If you sprain your ankle or do some other muscular damage, put an ice pack on as soon as possible for 15-20 minutes and repeat every hour.  The ice lowers the temperature around the injured area and and minimises swelling.  A packet of frozen peas wrapped in a towel is a quick fix if you don’t have a lot of ice. NOTE: if the peas thaw out , don’t refreeze as they may then contain harmful bacteria.

Spring vegetable planting

Sunday was warm and sunny so it was time to get out in the garden and clean up the raised beds ready for spring planting of lettuces, brassicas (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage) and later this month when the cold nights have hopefully gone – tomatoes, zucchini, capsicums and aubergines. Read more
