Remove smoking odours

October 23, 2011 | Filed under Tip of the Day

If someone smokes in your house, you can remove the smoky odours by putting a shallow bowl of baking soda dissolved in warm water in each of the affected areas for several hours.  The baking soda will absorb the odours.  This is especially effective after a smoky party. It will also work after a smoky fire or if you’ve burnt something and there is a burn smell afterwards.

I’ve badly burned some chocolate in my microwave now how do I get rid of the smell? It’s tainting all my food.

Baking soda is good for getting rid of unwanted smells in the microwave. First I suggest you wipe out the microwave with a solution of baking soda dissolved in hot water. 1 tablespoon baking soda to 1/2 cup water. Then try our removing smoky odours remedy and then leave the dish of dissolved baking soda in the microwave for a few hours. If the smell remains repeat the process.
